We kick start 2017 with a heavy-weight panel of industry speakers from Atlantic Records to Live Nation and Independently-run Play Hard Management / Label. The well-anticipated talk, hosted at Red Bull Studios, will discuss the topic of making money from music in the current industry climate. Learn about the different ways artists make money – including recordings, songs, merchandise, gigs, brand partnerships and the fan relationship – plus the companies they work with along the way. Below are the confirmed speakers for the seminar. 


Chris Cooke – Co-Founder & Editor, CMU.
Chris is MD and Business Editor of CMU and will be hosting Industry Takeover’s series of monthly music seminars. Chris writes for CMU’s media, co-hosts the podcast, curates and presents CMU Insights @ The Great Escape. He leads the company’s education programme, consultancy business and regularly writes, discusses and comments on media law, music and communication industries. He also authored the report ‘Dissecting The Digital Dollar’ for the UK’s Music Managers Forum.

Alec Boateng - A&R Director, Atlantic Records.
Back in 2004 Twin B released a mixtape called ‘Split Mic’ which featured up-and-coming artists such as Estelle and Donae'o. The mixtape was a landmark moment in the urban music scene and won a number of awards. Following the success of his mixtapeTwin B landed a show on BBC Radio 1Xtra - which he held for a decade. Alec secured his first A&R job at Asylum Records where he signed hit tracks including Wiley’s Wearing My Rolex.
His powerful portfolio has created a strong reputation within the industry. He featured in Music Week’s ‘30 Under 30’ as one of the finest young music Execs in the industry. Twin now leads the heavy-weight A&R team at Atlantic Records, where he is now putting his music executive skills into action once again.
Siavash Khatiri Founder, Play Hard Management / Label.
Vash has built a roster of raw talent for both his Play Hard management company and label. Play Hard has also been highly instrumental in the careers of Chip and Krept & Konan. It has invested in these acts at an early stage, helping them to break into the mainstream, securing endorsements and setting up their mainstream major label deals. One of the newest stars under Vash’s careful guidance is the Artist Geko; a young rapper set to reach some serious heights. Signed to Columbia Records through Play Hard, Vash is once again working his magic and displaying Geko to be yet another success story under his belt.

Anna-Sophie Mertens - Promoter, Live Nation
Anna’s career began with an internship at Germany’s largest independent record label Edel AG. She then gathered experience co-ordinating festivals and events before she joined Live Nation. Before Anna’s current role as a Promoter she was a Touring Executive and worked at the Wireless Festival; managing all show times and running order, collating artist details and assets, as well as managing all artist contracts. With an extensive range of experience at Live NationAnna now leads as a Promoter. The role includes booking and promoting a wide range of concerts and tours from club level up to arena size venues for a wide range of genres.
