2008 – Rock pioneer Bo Diddley dies of heart failure in Archer, Fla., at the age of 79.

2000 – Western swing pioneer Adolph Hofner dies at his home in San Antonio. He is 84.

1999 – Junior Braithwaite, one of the original members of Bob Marley’s Wailers, is shot and killed in Kingston, Jamaica. He is 47.

2006 - Reggae musician Desmond Dekker dies of a heart attack at his home in Croydon, England, at the age of 64.

2002 - More than two dozen people are injured in a mosh pit stampede while rapper Eminem is performing at Washington, D.C.'s RFK Stadium

1992 - Khalil Rountree, tour manager for Boyz II Men, is shot and killed at a Chicago hotel. He and the group were staying at the hotel while in Chicago on tour with rap star Hammer.

2008 - Lou Pearlman, manager of the Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync, is sentenced to 25 years in prison on four federal charges: two counts of conspiracy, money laundering and using false statements in a bankruptcy proceeding.

2003 - Ruben Studdard wins Season Two of "American Idol." Clay Aiken comes in second.

2000 - The Artist announced that he was reclaiming the name "Prince" since his contract with Warner-Chappell had expired. The contract officially ended on December 31, 1999.
